The District Agro-Met Unit of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kattupakkam is issuing District and Block level weather based agro advisory service bulletin to the farmers of Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu district. On every Tuesday and Friday, Agrimet advisory service bulletin is issued in both Tamil and English language. On the occurrence of extreme weather events like cyclone and heat wave situation, special advisory bulletins are also prepared and disseminated to the farmers. During the extreme weather events now casting (3 hrs) information is also shared to the farmers in Social media. Farmers may access the advisory bulletins in websites (http://www.imdchennai.gov.in/ and https://imdagrimet.gov.in), Mobile application (MEGHDOOT, Uzhavan, and Damini) and in social media (WhatsApp), Community Radios and CSC for Agriculture tele consultation services.

During the year 2020-21, DAMU unit released special advisory bulletins of Niwar cyclone to the farmers on precautionary measures to be taken during and also post cyclone management of field crops, livestock and fisheries. This DAMU unit also made a joint visit along with State Department of agriculture to access the extent of damage caused by the cyclone. Farmer’s awareness programme was organised to educate the farmers about the management of extreme weather events. This DAMU unit is also a member of District Disaster Management Committee, Chengalpattu District.

During COVID pandemic situation, DAMU unit regularly issued the Agrimet service bulletins and also organised several awareness programme to the farmers in online platform. To access the field conditions, periodic field visits are made and solutions are provided to the farmers.

For the effective dissemination of the Agrimet Services, several WhatsApp groups are created at block level for disseminating the services. Presently 24 WhatsApp group are formed for different blocks of the district covering more than 2,000 farmers for receiving the services.
